Organization Profile

The Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) traces its origin to the Indian Cancer Research Centre (ICRC) which was established in 1952 in Parel, Mumbai under the Ministry of Health, Government of India.

In 1966, the ICRC was renamed the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) and later merged with Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), forming the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) – India’s first comprehensive cancer research and treatment centre.

Today, TMC operates as an autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, and is recognized as one of the leading cancer research institutions in the country.

• Elucidating the role of peroxisomal biogenesis and function during developmental and malignant hematopoiesis

• Role of receptor and non-receptor tyrosine kinase networks in drug resistance and metastasis in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

• Structural alterations caused by germ-line mutations in BRCA2

• BRCA1-RAP80 complex integrity control by MERIT40 in DNA repair mechanisms

• Characterization of HtrA2 pathogenic mutations in infantile progressive diseases

• Interaction between Proapoptotic Serine Protease HtrA2 and Antiapoptotic cFLIP

• Development of mitochondria-targeted drug candidates for therapy-resistant cancers

• Metabolomic profiling of cardiac tissue to study doxorubicin cardiotoxicity

• Study of Pregnancy Zone Protein (PZP) and Matrix Metalloproteinases in breast cancer progression

• Role of ferroptosis regulators in drug resistance and metastasis in aggressive breast cancers

Qualification

• Ph.D. in Life Sciences
