Jadavpur University is one of the premier universities in India located in Kolkata, West Bengal. The origin of the institution dates back to 1910 when the Society for the Promotion of Technical Education in Bengal was established to promote technical education.

The Bengal Technical Institute later evolved into the College of Engineering and Technology, Bengal. By 1940, the institution was functioning almost like a university. After India’s independence, the Government of West Bengal, with the concurrence of the Government of India, enacted legislation to formally establish Jadavpur University on 24 December 1955.

The university is widely known for its excellence in education, research, and interdisciplinary programs.
