Ramanujan College is named after Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan, one of the world’s greatest mathematical geniuses. The college follows the core values of dedication, hard work, and commitment reflected in the University of Delhi’s motto “Nistha, Dhriti, and Satyam.”

The college was originally established in 1958 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Government of India in memory of Late Lala Deshbandhu Gupta, a freedom fighter who devoted his life to India’s independence movement.

Earlier known as Deshbandhu College (Evening), the institution has been maintained by the University of Delhi since 1972 and is fully funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Women students were admitted from 1994, and in 2010 the college was officially renamed Ramanujan College. In 2012, it became a full-fledged day college under the University of Delhi.
