Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is one of the premier technical institutions in India. The IIT system originated in 1946 when a committee headed by Sir Jogendra Singh recommended establishing higher technical institutions for post-war industrial development in India.

The committee led by N. R. Sarkar proposed the creation of four major technical institutions in different regions of India on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. IIT Kharagpur became the first IIT established in India, playing a major role in engineering education and research.

• B.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering) + Valid GATE Score (DS or CS)

OR

• M.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering) selected through one of the following processes:

a. Scholars selected through National Eligibility Tests (CSIR-UGC NET including Assistant Professorship) or GATE.
b. Selection through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and Agencies such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER etc.
